The Specialists
What is it: Matrix-like online multiplayer matches
Why do I want it: The Specialists scraps the same old run-and-shoot
routine by bringing a sword to a gunfight. Weight matters
-- each scope,
laser sight, and silencer you carry adds pounds to your person, and while
an AK packs kill-em-all punch, it's also heavy enough to slow combatants
to a crawl. Stick with a light load (a pair of pistols or a pig sticker),
and you can offset the enemy's firepower with acrobatic agility. Once
you've closed the distance -- dashing and diving, leaping and lunging with
gravity-defying derring-do -- you can disarm your opposition with a karate
kick or katana stroke. Add bullet time power-ups that put foes into sluggish
slow-mo while leaving you free to pick 'em off, and you've got the good
Matrix
game that never was.
